Why We do it
It all started with sharing cool plants and botany experiments with mates. A few cuttings here, a propagated expansion there. But as more eyes landed on D’Arcy’s creations and word spread through the plant-loving corners of Aotearoa, it grew (literally) into something bigger.
Urban Botanist became a way to share not just plants, but knowledge, curiosity, and a love for all things green. The plant community is the real deal. Generous, passionate, and always up for a yarn. That’s what keeps us rooted — growing alongside a crew that truly gets it

About
D'Arcy the Botanist
My name's D'Arcy, I'm a local Kiwi bloke from the North Shore in Auckland, here to spread the love with all things plants. If I'm not in the garden you'll find me out in the surf, mountain biking, or having some crafties with mates.
For as long as I can remember I've had a deep fascination for plants. It's a paradigm that I've had ingrained into me, thanks to my grandparents both owning orchards in Hawkes Bay and Riverhead. Learning from a young age the importance of growing your own food, I had a veggie patch every year without fail.
My fascination with indoor tropical plants flourished after tour guiding in Tropical North Queensland for a year. I would bring back cuttings from the rainforest such as golden pothos, black bean trees etc. to my apartment in Brisbane to bring the jungle inside. I also ran a plant rental company for a mate in Sydney. The knowledge I've gained from learning the specific care requirements for indoor plants is something I want to share with all you plant frothers back home here in NZ!
Urban Botanist Cloning Paste was born after teaching myself how to micro propagate plants via tissue culture in my home lab. I figured out the same plant hormones I had been using to multiply plants in vitro, could also be used in specific ratios to apply to plants ex vitro. Using the naturally derived lanolin (a bio product from sheep wool) as the base, and infusing it with a cytokinin plant growth hormone, was the perfect way to create a product that anyone can apply to their plants to promote new growth points!
By supporting Urban Botanist you are truly supporting local New Zealand businesses. We are a local New Zealand owned and operated business, using local suppliers from the packaging to the product ingredients.
